  1. India as a nation has moved up one position to become the world's 7th most valued 'nation brand'. It was an increase of 32% in its brand value to USD 2.1 billion. USA continues to hold No 1 position with brand value of USD 19.7 billion followed by China and Germany atthe second and the third positions respectively.

The UK, Japan and France secured 4th, 5th and 6th positions on the list. The nation brand valuation is based on five year forecasts of sales of all brands in each nation and follows a complex process. The Gross domestic product (GDP) is used as a proxy for total revenues.

  1. New Zealand defeated Australia by 34-17 at Twickenham on Saturday to win the World Rugby cup. With this win, they became world champions for a record third time,and also the first country to retain the Webb Ellis Cup. Man of the match Carter kicked 19 points to help New Zealand secure its win. The Rugby World cup was held in the United Kingdom in October 2015.

  2. Formula one driver of Mercedes team Nico Rosberg won the Mexican Grand Prix held on Sunday. His teammate and newly-crowned world champion Lewis Hamilton secured second place whle Valtteri Bottas of Williams secured third place in the race.

  1. The Human Resource Development Ministry has formed a new committee to draft the new education policy which will be headed by former Cabinet secretary T.S.R. Subramanian. The committee also appointed Shailaja Chandra, former Chief Secretary, NCT of Delhi; Sewaram Sharma, former Home Secretary, NCT of Delhi; Sudhir Mankad, former Chief Secretary of Gujarat, and J.S. Rajput, former Director, NCERT as its member.

The panel is expected to submit the draft policy as soon as possible but not later than 31st December. Along with the draft education policy, the Committee will also submit a Framework for Action.

  1. India-s eight core sectors output grew by 3.2% in September compared to same month last year. The growth was primarily due to an increase in fertilizer production, electricity generation and coal production.The eight core industries which are coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity account for 38% of the total industrial production.

  2. Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group owned Reliance Communications Ltd (R-Com) announced to merge its business with the telecom business of Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL) that owns the MTS brand for an all-stock deal worth Rs.4,500 crore. R-Com on Monday signed a definitive agreement with Sistema JSFC, a publicly-traded holding company in Russia, for demerger of SSTL.

  3. Argentine and FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been chosen as the global brand ambassador for Tata Motors- passenger vehicles for the next two years. Tata Motors will kick off a campaign, -#madeofgreat-, featuring Messi. The core idea is: -what drives us from within is what makes us great-. The process of selecting Messi as brand ambassador began with a careful study of the key pillars that the company felt underlined its brand image.

  4. Founder of Hero Moto Corp andChairman emeritus, Brijmohan Lall Munjal, passed away in New Delhi-s Max hospital yesterday. He was 92. Munjal stepped down from active role in Hero MotoCorp earlier in June this year.

BM Munjal along with his three brothers, OP Munjal, Dayanand Munjal and Satyanand Munjal, started a bicycle spare parts business in Amritsar in 1944. After that he established the world-s single largest motorcycle manufacturing firm Hero MotoCorp.

Punjabi became the third most common language after English and French in the House of Commons of Canada this week after 20 Punjabi-speaking candidates were elected to the parliament in previous month.23 Members of Parliament of South Asian origin were elected to the House of Commons, Parliament of Canada during parliamentary elections, out of which 20 speak Punjabi.

  2. Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from Test cricket in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates today after finishing test series against England. He has played 35 Tests and scored 1,898 runs with three centuries and eight half-centuries.

  1. Social networking giant Facebook has partnered with telecom PSU Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to create 100 WiFi hotspots in rural areas of western and southern India. As a part of the deal, Facebook will invest Rs 5 crore every year for buying bandwidth from BSNL. The hotspots will be set up by BSNL selected vendor Quad Zen and Trimax.

Facebook has also chosen 100 villages to provide Wi-Fi hotspots on a revenue-sharing model. The social media major will spend 5 lakh per site a year for buying bandwidth from BSNL for a period of three years.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked as the world-s ninth most powerful person by Forbes magazine for the year 2015, as per list published today compared to 14thrank last year. The list is topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin. German Chancellor Angela Merkel secured the second spot followed by US President Barack Obama (third) and Pope Francis (fourth) and Chinese President Xi Jinping (fifth).

Others ranked in the top ten are Microsoft Founder Bill Gates (sixth), US Federal Reserve Chairperson Janet Yellen (seventh), UK Prime Minister David Cameron (eighth) and Google-s Larry Page (tenth)

  1. Maharashtra government approved a revised scheme named as -APJ Abdul Kalam Amrut Yojna- to provide nutrition to pregnant and lactating women in the state's tribal areas. The scheme will be implemented by aanganwadis that come under the Women and Child Welfare Department in 16 districts having tribal population.

The food will be provided for six months, beginning from third trimester of pregnancy to the three months period after delivery. The meal will include pulses, rice, fruits, vegetables and boiled eggs with occasional supply of milk.

  1. Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu has recommended the name of Justice Tirath Singh Thakur as his successor who is now the senior most judge after the Chief Justice of India. Justice Thakur will take over after Chief Justice retires on 2ndDecember 2015. It is a convention that the present CJI recommends to the government the name of his successor.

  2. Suresh N Patel has been appointed as the MD and CEO of Andhra Bank this week. He is having more than 30 years of experience in banking industry.Before that, he has worked as the CEO of Association of Mutual Funds in India.

  3. Indian boxerShiva Thapa became the highest ranked Indian boxer when he moved up to the second spot in the latest international boxing rankings after winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha last month.He has moved up five places to secure second spot with 1550 points in the 56kg category. The top spot was secured by Irishman Michael Conlan with 2150 points, who won the gold medal at the World Championships.

  1. Indo-Canadian Sikh Harjit Sajjan was sworn-in as Defence Minister of Canada along with the new government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Sajjan succeeded former Defence Minister Jason Kenney. He was born in India and later moved to Canada with his family when he was five-years-old.

  2. Former Pakistan Cricket team captain Inzamam ul Haq has been appointed as the batting coach of Afghanistan Cricket team for a two-year period. Inzamam had agreed to be the batting consultant during the recent tour of Zimbabwe.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three gold related schemes today which are Gold Monetization Scheme, Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme and Indian Gold Coins. The three schemes were announced by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his 2015-16 budget speech in February this year. The key aims of these schemes are to reduce dependency on imported gold, recycle the unutilized gold in the country and most importantly, streamline the gold business in the country.

  2. Oxford University Press India (OUPI) has appointed V Sivaramakrishnan (Siva) as the managing director, to oversee key Asian markets including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.He will join OUPI from Manipal Global Education Services. Earlier he led a team that built and ran a successful online news, shopping, and gaming portal.

  3. Famous Indian shooter Jitu Rai won India's first senior medal at the 13th Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait City after finishing second in the finals of the men's 50 metre pistol event. Korea's Park Daehun secured Gold medal after scoring Asian record score of 199.2 while Jitu finished with a final score of 189.5.

World Health Organisation has now declared Sierra Leone as Ebola-free after a loss of 4,000 victims to the deadly virus in last 17 months.The WHO country director, Anders Nordström, confirmed that 42 days had passed without any new cases, which satisfies criteria that transmission of the virus has ended.

  2. The US economy added 271,000 jobs in October which is higher than earlier expectation of 185,000 jobs. Also US unemployment rate dropped to 5% in the same month which is the lowest in last seven and half years.This data increases expectations that the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates at its next policy meeting in December.

Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojna (UDAY) for financial restructuring of debt of power distribution companies this week with the key aim for financial turnaround and revival of Power Distribution companies (DISCOMs).UDAY scheme allows power DISCOMs in selected states to convert their debt into state bonds as well as roll out number of measures to improve efficiency at power plants. Selected states would be able to sell the balance 25% as state-backed power bonds or loans which will carry interest rates of g-sec plus 50 basis points.

  2. Union Ministry of Finance decided to impose 0.5% Swachh Bharat Cess on all taxable services which will be charged in addition to the existing 14% serrvice tax. The Swachh Bharat Cess will be effective from 15thNovember 2015 and the proceeds will be exclusively used to support Swachh Bharat initiative.

  3. Indian Army has successfully test fired the nearly 300-km-range Brahmos supersonic land attack cruise missile at Pokhran in Rajasthan today which met all the mission objectives.A mobile autonomous launcher at the ranges launched the missile.The Army has already inducted three regiments of Brahmos in its arsenal.

It can be launched from land, Sea, Sub-seas and air. It operates on Fire and Forget Principle by adopting varieties of flights on its way to the target.

  1. Famous film, television and stage actor Vikram Gokhale was conferred with the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave Award this week at a sunction held in Sangli, Maharashtra. The actor was felicitated with the award for his outstanding contribution to Marathi theatre. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor category for his Marathi film Anumati in 2013.

  2. India-s Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's has become the fastest Indian bowler to take 150 Test wickets in 29 Tests.He achieved this feat during first test against South Africa which India won. Overall, former England fast bowler Sydney Barnes is the fastest to take 150 wickets in 24 Tests.

  3. Indian shooter Heena Sindhu won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol women-s event at the 13th Asian Shooting Championship which is currently being held in Kuwait City. Other Indian shooters Nivetha won gold in the 10m air pistol junior women-s event and Shivam Shukla won Gold medal in the 25m pistol men-s junior event.

  1. The Grand Alliance has secured a big win in Bihar by securing 178 seats in the 243-member legislative assembly compared to 58 seats by NDA. RJD won 80 seats, JDU won 71 and Congress won 27 seats. With this win former Bihar Chief Minister will take oath as Chief Minister for the third consecutive time.

  2. India today test-fired its nuclear-capable strategic ballistic missile Agni-IV with a strike range 4,000 km, from a test range off the Odisha coast today. It was test fired from the launch complex-4 of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island, earlier known as Wheeler Island.

The indigenously developed surface-to-surface Agni-IV missile is a two-stage weapon system which is equipped with 5th generation onboard computer and distributed architecture.

Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was honoured with the Aditya Vikram Birla Kala Shikhar Award for lifetime achievement and the award was presented by the governor of Maharashtra C Vidyasagar Rao on 7thNovember.He is also the recipient of the Padma Shri and the Padma Vibhushan awarded by the Indian Government.

  2. Chairperson of SBI, Arundhati Bhattacharya, has been ranked as the most powerful woman in the Indian business sector, as per Fortune India. She was followed by ICICI Bank's Chanda Kochhar and Shikha Sharma of Axis Bank at the second and third place respectively. HPCL Chairperson and Managing Director (MD) Nishi Vasudeva secured the fourth position, while AZB & Partners Co-Founder Zia Mody and Aruna Jayanthi Chief Executive of Capgemini India secured the fifth rank in the same list.

  3. N Srinivasan was today removed as the ICC Chairman after the BCCI decided to recall him and nominate its recently-elected President Shashank Manohar as the new Chairman of the world Cricket body. N Srinivasan took over as ICC Chairman only in June last year. For the remainder of his term, Shashank Manohar will take over as new ICC chairman.

This decision was taken at the BCCI-s 86th Annual General Meeting owing to the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal in which Srinivasan-s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was held guilty of spot fixing by the Supreme Court.

  1. Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's political party National League for Democracy (NLD) won the election held in Myanmar and secureparliamentary majority.This is the first time, election was held properly in Myanmar after nearly 3 decades.

Earlier military-backed Union Solidarity Development Party (USDP) has been in power in Myanmar since 2011 when the country started its transition from military rule to a civilian government.

  1. Indian Government has taken s significant step towards economic reform today after relaxing Foreign Direct Investment norms in 15 major sectors of the economy to further boost the foreign direct in the country. These sectors include mining, civil aviation, defence, broadcasting, construction, manufacturing and private sector banking.

The reforms including opening up more sectors for FDI, further easing, rationalising and simplifying the FDI process and to put more FDI proposals on automatic route instead of Government route to boost foreign investment.

  1. Reserve Bank of India Governor, Raguram Rajan, has been elected vice-chairman of the Bank of International Settlement (BIS) and he will have a three-year term as vice-chairman of the BIS.With this, he has also become the first Indian central bank Governor to become the vice-chairman of BIS. BIS is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and acts as a coordinating body among central banks to ensure global monetary and financial stability.

The BIS board comprise all central bankers including Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney and Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda.

  1. India was re-elected by the General Assembly to a six year term on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) from 2016 to 2022. Along with India, 22 other countries including the United States and Pakistan were also re-elected to the UNCITRAL.

  2. Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Ajit Prakash Shah, was appointed as the ethics officer (ombudsman) at Board of Control for Cricket in India. With this, he will preside as the key decision maker on all conflict of interest related to Indian cricket which is also considered to be a cleanup operation by the BCCI after the IPL Spot fixing scandal.

  2. Indian financial services company Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. (IHFL) has acquired 39.76% stake in OakNorth Bank of the U.K. for USD 100 million.With this IHFL will become the largest shareholder of a full service universal bank.

He received the prize from Nobel Peace Laureate and his countrywoman Leymah Gbowee in The Hague.

  2. Budweiser beer makerAnheuser-Busch InBev complted its USD 107 billion takeover of SABMiller which will make the biggest brewer of the world with combined volume of almost a third of the beer consumed across the world. The two companies own hundreds of brands including Budweiser, Corona, Grolsch and Stella Artois.

  1. India and the United Kingdom have announced deals worth 9 billion pounds as they signed a civil nuclear pact and decided to increase collaboration in the field of defence and cyber security during first visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in UK this week.

Also UK announced 2017 as the UK-India Year of Culture to mark the 70th Anniversary of Indian Independence. On this Occasion, UK Institute will partner with Indian Institutes for the program and the British Library will digitize 2,00,000 pages from its South Asian Archives.

  1. First Elephant hospital in Northeast India was established at Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The hospital was set up at Mark Shand MemorialLearning Centre in Kaziranga National Park and it was inaugurated by Sir Evelyn de Rothschildwho is founding member of the UK-based charity Elephant Family.

India-s total exports dropped by 17.5% in October to USD 21.4 billion which is a continuous decline in export for 11 consecutive months.At the same time, total imports dropped by 21.2% in the same month to USD 31.1 billion. Trade deficit for the month stood at USD 9.7 billion compared to USD 13.7 billion in the same month last year.

  2. India-s overall inflation, measured by the Wholesale price index, increased marginally to (-) 3.81% in October compared to (-) 4.54% in the previous month Septemberdue to higher prices of pulses and onions. This is the 12thconsecutive months, India-s overall inflation stood at negative zone. Wholesale inflation stood at 1.66% in October last year. While wholesale inflation rate in the fuel and power segment stood at (-) 16.32%, in manufactured products it was (-) 1.67%.

  3. Former spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, Syed Akbaruddin has been appointed as India-s permanent representative to the United Nations. He will succeed Asoke Mukerji who is retiring from the service.

  4. Famous author of children's books, Kamala Laxman, passed away in Pune on 14thNovember 2015 due to old age related illness. She was 90. Widow of legendary cartoonist R.K. Laxman, She was commissioned by the India Book House in the 1970s to write stories for children, such as Thama and his Missing Mother and tales of Tenali Raman.

  5. Actor Saeed Jaffrey, famous for his roles in films like Shatranj Ke Khiladi and Ram Teri Ganga Maili, passed away on 15thNovember. He was 86. He had won the Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film, Shatranj Ke Khiladi.

  6. Famous Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal won silver medal at 2015 China Open Superseries Premier Badminton tournament after being defeated in the final of Women-s Singles category. In the final match, she was defeated by China-s Xuerui Li from by 12-21, 15-21.

  1. World Toilet Day (WTD) was observed across the world today (19thNovember) across the world with the theme -Sanitation and Nutrition- for the year 2015.The aim of the World Toilet Day is to raise awareness about the people in the world who don-t have access to a toilet.

The World Toilet Day has been celebrated by the World Toilet Organisation since 2001. It was later became an official UN day on 24 July 2013 as the 67th session of UN General Assembly approved it through the Sanitation For All resolution.

  1. German Formula One driver Nico Rosberg won the Brazilian Grand Prix held this Sunday. Lewis Hamilton secured second position and Sebastian Vettel secured third position in the race. With the win, Rosberg secured his place as runner-up in 2015 Formula One world championship.

  2. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket this week after conclusion to the second Test match against New Zealand at WACA. In his test career, he had taken 311 wickets and scored 2,036 runs. He also took 239 wickets in ODIs.

The President of India Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Justice Tirath Singh Thakur as the Chief Justice of India.Justice Thakur will take over the office from 3th December 2015 as the 43rd Chief Justice of India when current CJI retires. His tenure will be till 3rdJanuary 2017 when he attains the age of 65.

Earlier he worked as Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana. He was elevated as Judge of Supreme Court in November 2009.

  1. 7th Central Pay Commission has submitted its report today to central government in which it has recommended 23.55% hike in pay and allowances of government employees. Minimum basic pay of 18 thousand and maximum of 2.5 lakh rupees per month have been suggested by the Commission. The new salary structure will be effective from 1stJanuary 2016.

  2. Leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Ashok Singhal passed away on 17thNovember in Gurgaon due to a prolonged illness. He was 89. He served as the international working president of the Hindu organisation for over 20 years and he was a key organiser of the first VHP Dharma Sansad held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi in 1984.

  3. Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Zarin Daruwala as the new chief executive officer of its Indian operation. Earlier, he was president of the wholesale lending team at ICICI Bank Ltd. In his new role, he will report to Ajay Kanwal, regional CEO, ASEAN and South Asia at Standard Chartered.

  4. Philips India has appointed V Raja as the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director effective from 1stDecember. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving and building the healthcare and consumer lifestyle businesses within India. He succeeds A Krishna Kumar who has been appointed as the Head of the Emerging Businesses Group for Philips globally.

  5. Indian shuttler Siril Verma won a silver medal at the BWF World Junior Championships held in Lima, Peru this week. He was defeated by China-s Chia Hung Lu in the final match of the Boys' singles event. Earlier he won the Junior U15 Asian Championships title in 2013. He also became the first Indian player to win the Badminton Asia Youth Championships in 2013.

  1. World Economic Forum (WEF) has released the Global Gender Gap Report 2015 this week in which it ranked 145 countries on gender bias based on economic, educational, health-based and political indicators. India has been ranked at 108thposition in the list.

Iceland topped the list for the seventh consecutive years followed by Norway, Finland, Sweden and Ireland in the first 5 places. Countries Iran (141), Chad (142), Syria (143), Pakistan (144) and Yemen (145) are ranked at the bottom five of the list.

  1. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has unanimously adopted a French-sponsored resolution 2249 (2015) calling all nations to take all necessary measures to prevent and suppress the terrorist acts of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other extremist groups.It also mentions that ISIS group institutes a global threat to international peace and security and it argues all the UN member states to intensify their efforts to stem the flow of foreign terrorist fighters in Iraq and Syria and to prevent and suppress the financing on terrorism.

  2. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was chosen for the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2015, as announced by the international jury of the prize, headed by Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari on the occasion of birth annniversary of Indira Gandhi. The UNHCR was chosen for the award in recognition of its immense contributions in assisting millions of refugees in their rehabilitation and resettlement.

UNHCR, headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland, was established in December 1950 by the UN General Assembly with the aim to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide.

  1. World Football governing body FIFA has banned Nepal's football chief Ganesh Thapa for 10 years for corruption and president of the Laos federation Viphet Sihachakr for two years for bribery. FIFA accused Thapa of committing various acts of misconduct, which includes the solicitation and acceptance of cash payments from another football official, for personal and family gain.

  1. JDU leader Nitish Kumar was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the fifth time at the swearing-in ceremony held in Patna yesterday. Governor Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nitish Kumar along with other council of ministers belonging to RJD, JD(U) and Congress parties.

  2. The Delhi Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill, 2015 this week which will help in establishment of an independent authority to investigate offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The bill drafted by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia largely resembles the provisions contained in Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, 2011.

  3. Senior diplomat Vijay Keshav Gokhale has been appointed as India-s Ambassador to China this week. He will succeed Ashok Kantha, who was appointed as envoy to China in January 2014 for a two-year term which ends in January 2016.

  4. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of Ambuja Neotia group, has been elected as the President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for the year 2016.He will succeed current FICCI President Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson and Managing Director of Bharat Hotels Ltd, during the chamber's AGM in December 2015.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, was named as the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Champion for the Asia Region by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), this is also a first for an Indian.The award was conferred by Margarete Wahlstrom, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction, during the inaugural session of the Asia Leaders- Meeting towards Implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR in Asia.

  6. Former Gujarat Governor and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ram Krishna Trivedi passed away on 19thNovember. He was 94. He introduced the Election Photo identity card (EPIC) i.e., voter ID cards in Indian Elections. He was conferred with Padma Vibhushan award by the Indian Government.

  2. Global Pharma giant Pfizer Inc completed a deal to acquire Botox-maker Allergan Plc in a transaction valued at about USD 160 billion. This is one of the most complex deal in the healthcare sector which will make a giant in the same sector.

Post the deal, Pfizer Chief Executive Ian Read will be CEO of the combined company, while Allergan CEO Brent Saunders will be Chief Operating Officer.

  1. World number one seeded Tennis player Novak Djokovic won the season-ending ATP World Tour finals on Sunday after defeating third seed Roger Federer by 6-3, 6-4 in the final match. With this win, he became the first player to win ATP world tour finals for the fourth consecutive time and surpassed Ivan Lendl's 1987 record, when he had won his third straight Tour Finals title.

  1. French President Francois Hollande will be the Chief Guest at the 67th Republic Day parade of January 26, 2016, as announced during the visit of French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Delhi. This is significant move after recent shooting in Paris which killed more than 140 people last week and send a strong message against terrorism of the ISIS.

With this, Francois Hollande would be the 5th highest dignitary from France to be Chief Guest of Indian Republic Day parade after Prime Minister Jacques Chirac in 1976, President Valéry Giscard d-Estaing in 1980, President Jacques Chirac in 1998 and President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008.

  1. Delhi Government launched a special cleanliness drive named as -Swachh Delhi Abhiyan- to remove debris and garbage lying in various localities in New Delhi.The drive was launched by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and will continue till the end November month.

As a part of this drive, 3 municipal bodies in Delhi will clear the garbage and the concrete waste will be lifted by the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi government.

  1. Indian junior men-s hockey team won the 8th Men-s Junior Asia hockey cup after defeating arch rival Pakistan by 6-2 in the final match played at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium in Kuantan, Malaysia. Korea defeated Japan to win the bronze medal.

  2. India-s most successful cueist Pankaj Advani won the IBSF World Snooker Championship after defeating Chinese Zhua Xintong in the final match. With this win, his total number of world title reached to 15. He has also become the first person in history to take the short (6-Red) and the long snooker format in the same calendar year.

The nuclear-capable Dhanush missile was successfully test fired from warship Subhadra off the Puri coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).Dhanush is one of the five missiles indigenously developed by the DRDO under its strategic Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). The missile is single-stage, liquid propelled with a strike range of 350 kms.

Famous Marathi actor Prashant Damle was selected for the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Award for his contribution in the field of theatre, film and music.He will be conferred with the award by Lata Mangeshkar in April 2016 on the occasion of the death anniversary of Master Dinanath Mangeshkar, father of Singer Lata Mangeshkar. Prashant Damle has been associated with Marathi theatre, television and Cinema for more than 3 decades.

Union Government has reduced the deadline for completion of PM Narendra Modi-s Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for rural connectivity through all- weather roads from 2022 to 2019.The annual allocation of the Central release for PMGSY works for financial year 2015-16 has also been increased by 5,000 crore rupees.

The Reserve Bank of India has provided in principle approval to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to function as the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) in Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) this week. Post this approval, NPCI will set necessary operational, technical and business standards for the entire system and its participants and will own clearing and settlement activities.

The present scope of BBPS will include utility bill payments, such as, electricity, water, gas, telephone and Direct-to-Home (DTH).

  1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has provided in-principle approval to three applicants to set up and operate Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) this week under the Payment and Settlement System (PSS) Act 2007. These three Organizations are NSE Strategic Investment Corporation Limited (NSICL) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Mumbai, Axis Bank Limited, Mumbai and Mynd Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon. The in-principal approval will be valid for 6 months during which these entities have to comply with the requirements under the Guidelines and adhere to the conditions.

  2. HSBC Holdings Plc has announced that it is shutting its private banking unit in India and with this it joins the list of foreign banks which exited from Private Banking business in India due to step competition from local players. Recently Royal Bank of Scotland and Morgan Stanley had sold their Indian private banking business to other entities.

  3. Dubai-based hospitality and event management company Grand Midwest Group has appointed Indian Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its Brand Ambassador for three years. The Grand Midwest Group owns hotel properties in Dubai, UK and Ireland.

Great Britain have won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 after Andy Murray defeated Belgium's David Goffin by 6-3 7-5 6-3 to clinch the decisive point which secured Britain-s cup title. With this win, Britain have now won the team Tennis title 10 times in Davis Cup-s 116 years history while Murray has added the Davis Cup to his other major titles at Wimbledon, the US Open and the Olympic Games.

  4. Mercedes Formula One driver Nico Rosberg won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2015 race held at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Sunday. His teammate Lewis Hamilton secured second position and Ferrari-s Kimi Raikkonen secured the third position in the same race. Force India drivers- Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg finished at the fifth and seventh position respectively.

  5. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin jumped to his career-best second ranking in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers published today. He claimed 12 for 98 in the third Test in Nagpur. South Africa-s D.W. Steyn secured first place in the ranking.

  1. Union Government has announced the date for implementation of Bharat Stage (BS) V and BS VI emission norms for four-wheelers in order to reduce air pollution on Indian roads. As per notification, BS V norms will be rolled out from 1st April 2019 while BS VI norms will be effective from 1st April 2021. Bharat stage (BS) norms are emission standards decided by the government to regulate the amount of air pollutants from vehicles.

  2. The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has appointed Mahesh Gupta. Gupta as his new President.He is Chairman of Kent RO Systems Ltd, a leading player in water purifier industry.He succeeds Alok Shriram.
