IBM crosses Microsoft in terms of market cap

Tech giant (known as Big Blue) International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) has crossed Software giant and Windows Operating system maker Microsoft Corp. to become the world-s second most valuable technology company after Apple. IBM-s market cap increased to USD 214 billion while market cap of Microsoft dropped to USD 213.2 billion at the time of market closing.


This is the first time, IBM has crossed Microsoft in last 15 years, Microsoft crossed IBM in 1996. Even after the tech bubble burst, Microsoft had retained its place. IBM  has sold off its PC business 6 years ago to focus on corporate software, support and services including consulting services; While Microsoft has expanded from its mostly used Windows OS and Microsoft Office softwares to online advertising, gaming, mobile operating system etc.
