1. Greece-s new caretaker government was sworn in on 28th August and will rule the country till fresh polls next month. Vassiliki Thanou took oath as the country-s first female prime minister. Earlier former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stepped down last week following a rebellion by members of his leftwing Syriza party who objected to the conditions of Greece-s third international bailout.

2. Lionel Messi was voted UEFA's Best Player in Europe for last season after defeating his teammate Luis Suarez and Real Madrid's star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in a Europe-wide poll of journalists. He and Cristiano Ronaldo both ended the season with 77 goals.

3. Jamaica team won gold in final of men-s 4x100 relay event of the World Athletic Championships in Beijing. The Jamaican team consisting of Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Nickel Ashmeade finished the final with a time of 37.36 seconds. Bolt has already won the individual 100 metres and 200 metres events this year to make his total Gold medals count to 11 in the World Athletic Championships.
