1. World Football governing body FIFA has appointed Fatma Samoura, a Senegalese UN diplomat, as its first-ever female secretary general. Samoura has worked on humanitarian crises with the UN for 21 years. She replaced former secretary general Jerome Valcke of France who was sacked in January and banned from football for 12 years due to misconduct in television deals and World Cup ticket sales.

2. World governing body FIFA has appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal as deputy chairman of its governance committee. Justice Mukul Mudgal, former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana, who headed the IPL spot-fixing probe.

Portuguese Luis Miguel Maduro, who is a former European Court of Justice Advocate General, will head FIFA's governance committee. Mudgal and Maduro will also head FIFA's International Review Committee, which will assess all major decisions.

3. Spanish football club Barcelona won the La Liga championship title for the second consecutive time and the 24th time overall after they defeated Granada by 3-0 in the last game of the season. All three goals came from striker Luis Suárez, who ended the season as the top goal scorer with 40 goals.
