1. World Population Day is observed across the world today (11th July) to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issue. The theme this year is -Investing In Teenage Girls-.

2. Portugal won the Euro 2016 football championship at Saint-Denis in Paris after defeating France 1-0 in the final match. Substitute Eder scored in extra-time to give Portugal a win at their first major international title despite losing captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to injury.

3. Britain's Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon Men-s singles title and third Grand Slam crown after defeating Canadian Milos Raonic by 6-4, 7-6 and 7-6 in the final match.

Serena Williams defeated Germany's Angelique Kerber by 7-5 6-3 to win her seventh Wimbledon Women-s singles title. With this she equalled Steffi Graf's professional era record of 22 grand slam singles crowns.

Britain's Heather Watson and Finland-s Henri Kontinen won the Wimbledon mixed doubles crown after defeating 15th seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and Colombian Roberto Farah 7-6, 6-4 in the final match.

Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams won the women-s doubles title after defeating fifth seeds Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan by 6-3, 6-4, their sixth Wimbledon doubles title.

4. Barcelona's Argentinian star Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison and fined 2 million euros after being found guilty of three counts of tax fraud, a court in the Spanish city said last week. The court handed the same jail sentence to the Argentine soccer player's father, Jorge, and fined him 1.5 million euros.

5. UK-s Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes team won the British Grand Prix held this Sunday which is his third win in a row. Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured second position while Germany-s Nico Rosberg of Mercedes secured third position in the same race. Force India-Mercedes- Sergio Pérez and Nico Hülkenberg secured fifth and sixth position respectively.
