1. Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar became the lone Indian ever to qualify for the finals of Artistic Gymnastics after completing the qualifying round though she grabbed the 8th position to advance to the finals. She performed her risky Produnova vault to secure position in final.


2. The second National Handloom Day was observed across the country on 7th August. This is the second edition of National Handloom Day which was started only last year.


3. IDFC Bank has appointed former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor Anand Sinha to the bank's board with effective from 1st August this year. He replaced former CAG Vinod Rai who stepped down after serving on the board for a year.
4. Global Technology Support company CSS Corp has appointed Manish Tandon as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will succeed "Tiger" TG Ramesh, who now moves to a strategic advisor role as a non-executive director on the board. Before that he was leading the head of Healthcare & Life Sciences, Insurance and High-Tech Manufacturing businesses at Infosys.
5. Famous South Indian film director and scriptwriter -Vietnam Veedu- Sundaram passed away in Chennai. He was 76.
