1. BJP Leader Poonam Mahajan was unanimously elected as the President of Basketball Federation. With this, she became the first woman President of the Basketball Federation ever since it was established in 1950.

At the same time, Roopam Harish Sharma, secretary of Delhi Basketball Association,  was unanimously elected as the Secretary General of the BFI, again first by a woman.

2. The Reserve Bank of India has relaxed provisioning rules against bad loans by allowing banks to set aside up to 50% of floating provisions, compared to earlier limit of 33%. The new relaxation will be applicable for floating provisions held by them as of the end of December 2014.

This step will help banks to provide more relaxation for theirs bad loans, thereby reducing the hit banks may face on their profitability due to the bad loans.

3. Japanese auto major Honda has been appointed Katsushi Inoue slated as its new President & CEO of its Indian operation Honda Cars India Ltd from April this year. He will succeed incumbent Hironori Kanayama who is due to retire and return to Japan.

As part of the other management changes, Hiroyuki Shimizu will be the new Senior Vice President & Director, Marketing & Sales, in Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL).

4. Saina Nehwal won her maiden India Open Super Series Women-s singles title after defeating former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand by 21-16 21-14 in the final match held in New Delhi. Recently she achieved No 1 rank in the World Badminton ranking list, first time by an Indian woman.

At the same time, other Indian shuttler K. Srikanth defeated Viktor Axelsen of Denmark by 18-21, 21-13, 21-12 to win the India Open Super Series Badminton Men's Singles title. This is his second Super Series title.
