1. Rajya Sabha passed the Regional Rural Banks (Amendment) Bill, 2014 after it was passed by the Lok Sabha on 18 December 2014. The Regional Rural Banks (Amendment) Bill, 2014 which was introduced by the Union Minister of Finance, Arun Jaitley, seeks to amend the Regional Rural Banks (RRB) Act, 1976.


It seeks to amend the RRB Act, 1976 which mainly provides for the incorporation, regulation and winding up of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). The amendments include removal of the five year limit cap that was put on the sponsor banks to assist the upcoming RRBs under the RRB Act, 1976. As per the Act, sponsor banks were liable to train personnel and provide managerial and financial assistance for the first five years.


2. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared Nadia district in West Bengal as the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) district in the country. She thanked UNICEF and the World Bank for helping the district to achieve this feat and also declared 30th April to be observed as the -Nirmal Bangla Diwas-


3. All India Football Federation President Praful Patel was elected unopposed as Asian Football Confederation's vice president of the SAFF region at the AFC Congress held in Bahrain today.


4. The World Bank has projected India's GDP growth rate at 7.5% for the current fiscal year 2015-16. As per the World Bank India Development update report, India's GDP growth rate expected to increase to 7.5% cent in 2015-16 and to 7.9% in 2016-17 and 8% in 2017-18. The government of India has projected India's GDP growth rate at 8.5% in the current financial year.


5. Indian e-commerce Company and Online marketplace Flipkart has acquired Delhi-based mobile engagement and marketing automation company Appiterate. Appiterate is a full-fledged mobile marketing automation platform which was launched as an A/B testing product for native mobile apps. Post this deal, Appiterate's mobile marketing automation platform will be integrated into Flipkart-s mobile app.


6. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated Indian batsman Rohit Sharma for this year Arjuna Award. The Arjuna Awards was instituted in 1961, which is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in National sports.


7. Railways defeated Uttar Pradesh Hockey team by 5-3 in the final match to win the Senior Men's National Hockey championship held recently. Air India Sports Promotion Board defeated Hockey Gangpur-Odisha by 5-3 to secure third place in the tournament.


8. Famous Marathi film and stage actress, Shanta alias Bimba Modak, passed away in Pune. She was 97. She made her debut in the film "Chulaani Mul" in 1946 which was directed by noted playwright and writer Vishram Bedekar. She was also honoured with a lifetime award by Maharashtra government in 1980.
