1. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has announced her decision to quit and will submit her resignation to State Governor O P Kohli today. BJP Parliamentary Board has also accepted her offer to quit the top post and in a process to finalize her successor.


2. The Parliament has approved the proposal to set up six new IITs across the country by passing the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Rajya Sabha today. These new IITs will be established in Palakkad (Kerala), Goa, Dharwad (Karnataka), Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), Jammu, and Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh).


3. India-s Cricket body BCCI has appointed former SC judge Markandey Katju as the head of a 4-member legal panel to help to implement reforms proposed by the Justice Lodha Committee. This panel will be a single point interface for the BCCI to interact with the Justice Lodha Committee.


4. Global Tech giant Microsoft has appointed Anant Maheshwari as the next President of its Indian operation with effective from 1st September. He will succeed Bhaskar Pramanik, who retires in March 2017.
