1. AIADMK leader O.Panneerselvam was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu by the Tamilnadu Governor Dr. K.Rosaiah as AIADMK Supremo Ms. Jayalalithaa had to resign as Chief Minister following her conviction in an 18-year old DA case by the Special court on Saturday.


Meanwhile, J Jayalalitha-s lawyers filed an appeal before the Karnataka High court today for seeking bail. Earlier she was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and a fine of 100 crore rupees for amassing disproportionate assets of over 66 crore rupees beyond her source of income.


2. Justice Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu was sworn-in as the new and 42nd Chief Justice of India on Sunday (28th September) and he was administered oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He succeeds Chief Justice R M Lodha who retired on 27th September after attaining retirement age.


3. Delhi Metro has been ranked at 2nd place among 18 international Metro systems in terms of overall customer satisfaction, as per an online customer survey result published recently. The survey conducted among the commuters of those Metro systems by Global Metro Benchmarking Groups NOVA and CoMET in which Delhi Metro along with London DLR and Bangkok were the best three performers in the Net Promoters Score (NPS) category.


4. Japanese electronics firm Casio has roped in Oscar winning music composer and singer director A R Rahman as brand ambassador for its electronic musical instruments division. It will help the Indian arm, Casio India to expand business in India and change its image as a high quality keyboard maker.


5. Indian tennis player Leander Paes won the ATP Malaysian Open title along with his new partner Marcin Matkowski after defeating second seeded Jamie Murray and John Peers by 3-6 7-6 10-5 in the final match at Kuala Lumpur today. It was his first title of the season.


6. India's Seema Poonia won Gold medal today in women's discus throw event while and tennis pair of Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni won the yellow medal in mixed doubles today. Overall, India bagged two gold, two Silver and three bronze medals today and India's overall medals tally now is: 6 gold 7 silver and 29 bronze.


Seema Poonia threw 61.03 meters to win the gold while her sister, Krishna Poonia finished fourth in the same event. Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni defeated Chinese Taipei pair by 6-4, 6-3 in the final match of the mixed doubles. Sanam Singh and Saketh Myneni won silver medal in men-s doubles event and they lost to Korean pair by 5-7, 6-7 in final. Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare pair also won a bronze medal in Women-s doubles event after losing to Chinese Taipei-s Chin Wei Chan and Su Wei Hsiehin in the Asian Games yesterday.


Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won gold medal in the men-s freestyle 65kg category in the Asian Games yesterday, thus ending India-s 28-year-old wait for a wrestling gold medal in the Asian Games.


Khushbir Kaur became the first Indian woman to win a medal in race walking in the Asian Games yesterday after she won silver medal in 20km event on the second day of the athletics competition.
