1. 10th National Statistics Day was observed on 29th June across the country in order to create awareness about the importance of statistics in daily life and in the process of planning and development. The theme this year is 'Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare'.


2. Majuli in Assam has become a district as announced by the state Government. With this, it has become the first island district in the country.


3. Five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand was conferred the "Honoris Causa" Doctor of Science by Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) during its 49th convocation ceremony. He was also the first recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1991-92, India's highest sporting honour. In 2007, he was awarded India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan.


4. India-s biggest Milk Producer Amul has signed up as the official sponsor for the Indian contingent to the Rio Olympics 2016. The company will launch a series of advertising campaigns for milk and other dairy products to promote this association.


5. The Defence Ministry has approved the purchase of 145 Ultra-Light Howitzers, worth about USD 750 million, from USA.


6. Famous modern art painter K G Subramanyam passed away this week. He was 92. He was a freedom fighter and was jailed briefly during the Quit India Movement. He was awarded with Padma Vibhushan by Indian Government.
