1. India jumped 16 places to be ranked at 39th place out of 138 countries in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 2016-17 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) to emerge as the highest rising economy due to improvement in goods market efficiency, business sophistication and innovation.
Switzerland, Singapore and the US remain as the world's most competitive economies.

2. Government today approved the ratification of Paris Agreement on Climate Change, paving the way for bringing it into force.

3. IPS Officer O P Singh took over as the new Director General of CISF.
