1. National Science Day was observed today (28th February 2013) like every other years. The theme of 2013 Science Day was -Genetically Modified Crops and Food Security-. The day is observed every year to popularise science and its applications among school and college students. National Science Day is observed in honour of Nobel laureate and physicist CV Raman-s discovery of the Raman Effect that was announced on the same day in 1928.

2. The Congress party has retained power in Meghalaya after emerging as the single largest party in the recently held assembly election. It won total 29 seats compared to 25 sits won in 2008 assembly election.

3. The ruling Left Front party won the Tripura assembly election by a big margin with the CPI (M) winning 49 seats and the CPI one in the 60-member Assembly. With this, Left Front is going to form government for the straight fifth term.

4. Naga Peoples Front won the Nagaland assembly election today after gaining absolute majority by securing 37 of the total 60 seats. With this, it is going to form the government for the third consecutive time.
