1. Delhi University finally agreed to scrap its four year undergraduate program and revert to the three-year programme which was in place till 2012 after being pressurized by the UGC. This decision also ends the uncertainty regarding admission for current year 2014-15. Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh asked principals of various colleges affiliated to the varsity to start admissions for the new session.


A 12-member committee of college principals was set up by the university today to look into the issue of admissions under the three-year format.


2. The department of public enterprises has granted Navratna status to National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) and Engineers India Limited (EIL) following fulfillment of prescribed criteria by the two Central PSUs. The status came into effect from June 23.


With this, NBCC became the 15th and EIL 16th Navratna Company amongst 250 Central Public Sector Undertakings in the country. NBCC is a CPSE under the ministry of urban development, whereas the EIL is a PSU under the Ministry of petroleum and natural gas.


3. UCO Bank has been awarded the -Platinum SKOCH Inclusion & Deepening Award 2014- for -excellence in banking-. The award was presented by MP Minakshi Lekhi to Arun Kaul, CMD, UCO Bank. As per the bank, it has adopted 18 villages across 10 States for the uplift of below-poverty-line households. It has trained 46,659 persons, of which 27,000 have become economically self-reliant with a credit linkage of Rs 590 crore.


4. France has announced that it would honour Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan with the 'Legion of France', one of its highest civilian awards. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will present the award to Khan next week.


Amitabh Bacchan received the award in 2007. Shah Rukh Khan will be the second Bollywood actor after him to receive the same honour. The award is conferred for excellent civil or military conduct.


5. Famous Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal entered the women's singles semifinals after defeating Eriko Hirose of Japan by 21-18 21-9 in the quarterfinal of the Star Australian Super Series in Sydney today. India-s other shuttler P V Sindhu failed to cross the quarterfinal hurdle after being defeated by Carolina Marin of Spain 17-21 17-21. Saina will now play against world no. 2 Chinese shuttler Shixian Wang in the semifinal match.
