1. India successfully launched its latest communication satellite GSAT-6 today with an indigenously cryogenic engine using a GSLV-D6 rocket. The GSLV-D6 carrying the 2117 kg GSAT-6 lifted off at 4.52 pm from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and placed the satellite in orbit, after about 17 minutes.

2. The Central Government unveiled the list of 98 cities that will be part of its ambitious Smart Cities project, the list was release by the Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu. The list includes 13 cities from Uttar Pradesh, 12 from Tamil Nadu, 10 from Maharashtra, 7 from Madhya Pradesh, 3 each from Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

3. The United Kingdom has announced that it would fund a capacity building programme for making Kolkata a low carbon city. This will be implemented by the UK-Kolkata Municipal Corporation joint programme which was announced during presence of the UK Minister of State for International Development, Desmond Swayne.

The programme would cover over 20 multi-sectoral projects, including rooftop solar plant, a mobility plan, a master plan for energy-efficient street lighting, a disaster management plan and a green city business and investment plan.
