1. The Central Government has appointed additional secretary A.K. Dubey as the new chairman of India-s largest mining company Coal India with immediate effect. He will serve his post as an additional charge till a full-time chairman was appointed. He succeeded S. Narsing Rao who resigned as Coal India Ltd-s chairman and managing director almost a month back.


2. B. Ashok has been appointed as the head of India-s largest oil firm, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) today. This is the the first top level appointment by the new government. B. Ashok, Executive Director (Retail Sales) at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), was chosen to head the company by Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) in October last year, but the previous UPA government could not appoint him before its tenure ended.


Once approved the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, formal appointment orders will be issued. He will succeed R.S. Butola who retired on 31st May.


3. Four Indians, including Rohini Nilekani and Ajay Piramal, have been included in the latest annual Forbes list of 'Heroes of Philanthropy in Asia Pacific' published today. 75-year old Desh Bandhu Gupta, founder and chairman of drug-maker Lupin and former Goldman Sachs banker Ashish Dhawan are the other two Indian to be featured in list.


The list, comprising of 48 persons, also includes four each from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.


4. E-commerce marketplace Flipkart has launched its first tablet - Digiflip Pro XT712 - under its brand, Digiflip Pro. The tablet which is available in black and white variants, is priced at Rs 9,999. The tablet also comes with shopping benefits worth over Rs 5,000 and free eBooks worth over Rs 2,000 from Flipkart. The XT712 comes with a 1280 x 800p HD resolution with IPS display. It is being shipped with a 1.3 GHz quad core Cortex A7 processor, and has dual SIM 3G calling features.


5. The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has awarded ITeS Company Diya Systems (Mangalore) Pvt Ltd with export excellence award for 2014. It was awarded the -Best District Export Award- in recognition of its services in the export segment.
