1. The 66th Republic Day was observed today across the nation with different parade functions organized at different locations. President Pranab Mukherjee hosted the national flag at Rajpath in the presence of Chief Guest Barack Obama, First lady of US Michelle Obama, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. US President Barack Obama was the chief guest for this year-s republic day parade.


During 3-day India visit of USA President Barack Obama, India and USA signed the long pending nuclear deal which will allow American companies to supply India with civilian nuclear technology. This deal had been held for more than 6 years over the liability clause related to any nuclear accident.


2. Famous cartoonist and creator of common man, RK Laxman passed away today in a Pune hospital. He was 94. He is famous for his 'You Said It' pocket cartoon in Times of India featuring the much-loved 'common man'.


He was awarded with Padma Bhushan award in 1971 and India-s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan in 2005 by the Indian Government. He also won Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts in 1984.
