Current Affairs India - 23-24-25 June 2016

1. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently launched a record 20 satellites in 26 minutes from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The 20 satellites including India's latest earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 was launched onboard Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV C-34. The other 19 satellites were from the US, Germany, Canada and Indonesia. Two satellites were from Sathyabama University, Chennai, and the College of Engineering, Pune.

2. The Central Government has launched a pilot programme to run two-wheelers on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in New Delhi in order to reduce air pollution in cities. ii. The project was jointly launched by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar at the CGO Complex CNG station.

3. IIT-Kanpur professor Sanjay Mittal has been awarded the twenty-fifth GD Birla Award for Scientific Research for the year 2015 for his significant contributions have been in the area of Mechanics.

4. Indian IT Services Company Tech Mahindra Ltd (TechM) acquired UK-based digital transformation firm The BIO Agency Ltd for around 45 million pounds. This acquisition will help Tech Mahindra to strengthen its digital portfolio to provide better digital services to the clients.

5. Global payments platform, PayPal has appointed Anupam Pahuja as Country Manager and MD for its India operations.

6. Nokia has appointed Sanjay Malik as the head of Indian market with effective from 1st August. He is currently head of Network Implementation (NI) at Nokia Global Services.

7. Exide Life Insurance has appointed India's ODI and T20 cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador. He will feature in the Exide Life Insurance marketing campaign -Lamba saath, bharose Ki baat.-

8. Grand Master Harika Dronavalli won the best women's player award in the Eurasian Blitz chess tournament in Kazakhstan with cash prize of USD 2500 and 60 ELO points to regain her position in the top 10.

9. Former Spinner Anil Kumble has been appointed as the new coach of Indian Cricket Team by the BCCI working committee this week. He will hold the post for 1 year and new bowling, batting and assistant coaches will be appointed soon.

10. India-s World Championship medal winner Anju Bobby George has resigned as President of the Kerala Sports Council post after she accused Sports Minister EP Jayarajan of allegedly harassing her and other members of Kerala Sports Council. She became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003.

11. Neil O-Brien, a leader of the Anglo-Indian community who is credited with pioneering quizzing in the country, passed away in Kolkata. He was 82. He conducted the first well-organized, formal quiz in 1967 at Christ the King Church Parish Hall in Calcutta.
