1. Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam resigned as he submitted his resignation to Governor K Rosiah, making way for AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa to come back as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. All 151 MLAs of the party unanimously re-elected Jayalalithaa as the legislature party leader, paving the way for her to become the state chief minister for the fifth time. She is expected to be sworn in on 23rd May.


2. SS Ahluwalia has been appointed as the chairman of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement (LARR) (Amendment) Bill, 2015. The committee has 20 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 members from the Rajya Sabha.


3. The finance ministry has constituted a panel, headed by chairman of the Law Commission of India A P Shah, to look into the applicability of Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) on foreign institutional investors (FIIs) before April 2015. The panel comprises of three members including one Chairman. Other two members are Ashok Lahiri, former chief economic advisor and Girish Ahuja, former associate professor of commerce at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi.


4. Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. Also she became the ninth Governor of Jharkhand. She succeeded Syed Ahmed who was recently appointed as Governor of Manipur.


5. The Climate Group announced that Infosys, India-s leading Information Technology Company, has become the first Indian company to join RE100, a global platform for major companies committed to 100% renewable power. As part of its commitment to RE100, Infosys aims to become carbon neutral by 2018.


6. Famous economist, academic and policy advisor, Mrinal Datta Chaudhuri passed away in Pune. He was 81. He was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
