1. Indian Town Varanasi was chosen as the global bandwagon of UNESCO "Cities of Music" under the Creative Cities Network by UNESCO. It was chosen in the music category under UNESCO's "field of excellence" plan. The fields of excellence are classified into categories of literature, film, music, craft and folk art, design, media arts and gastronomy


Nine cities - Glasgow in the UK, Hanover and Mannheim in Germany, Ghent in Belgium, Hamamatsu in Japan, Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo, Bogota in Columbia, Seville in Spain and Bologna in Italy - are already part of UNESCO "Cities of Music".


2. Haryana Government has named Parineeti Chopra as its brand ambassador for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign to promote the cause of girl child. The campaign, aimed at ensuring survival, protection and empowerment of the girl child, was launched by Prime Minister Modi from Haryana's Panipat in January this year.


3. Former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar was appointed as the Chief Advisor of Security and anti-corruption unit (ACSU) of BCCI for next year-s T20 World Cup This will be hosted by India in 2016. Earlier he was included in the anti-corruption unit by the BCCI during the IPL.


3. Rakesh Sahni, a retired IAS officer of 1972 batch, was appointed as Chairman of Narmada Valley Development Authority. Before that he was working as a chief secretary of States. NVDA is a multidisciplinary organization of the Madhya Pradesh State Government with headquarter at Bhopal. 


4. The Reserve Bank of India formed a committee to work out a five-year (medium-term) action plan for financial inclusion. This committee comprises total 14 members and will be headed by RBI executive director Deepak Mohanty. The main aim of this committee will be to review the existing policy of financial inclusion, including customer protection framework and supportive payment system.


5. India-s exports dropped by 15.8% in June compared to same month last year to USD 22.3 billion due to the global slowdown, and a fall in crude oil prices. This is the seventh consecutive drop in Exports. Also total imports declined by 13.4% to USD 33.1 billion dollars in June due to fall in oil and gold shipments. The trade deficit narrowed to USD 10.8 billion dollars in June compared to USD 11.8 billion in the same month last year.


6. Famous Telugu playback singer Vissamraju Ramakrishna passed away due to cancer. He was 68. He had sung many memorable songs for different stars including legendary south Indian actor turned politician N T Rama Rao. He had sung about 5,000 songs in his nearly 4 decades long career.
