1. Justice P Sathasivam sworn in as the 40th Chief Justice of India (CJI) today by President Pranab Mukherjee. He took over the post from Justice Altamas Kabir, who served as the CJI for over nine months and retired yesterday.

2. Samar Mukherjee, the freedom fighter as well as the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader passed away in Kolkata following a range of illnesses. He was 100 years. He joined the Communist Party of India-Marxist in 1964 and joined CPI in the year 1940. He was the representative of Howrah in the Lok Sabha for three years in a row between 1971 and 1984 and was also elected to Rajya Sabha in 1986.

3. Former South Africa player Dave Staniforth has been appointed as goalkeeping coach and strategic analyst of the Indian senior and junior men's hockey teams. He has also worked as goalkeeping coach with the South African national side for three years.
