1. Indian Wrestler Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in the Women's Freestyle 58kg category with a comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan. She overturned a 0-5 deficit to script an 8-5 victory over the Kyrgyzstan wrestler. This is first Gold for India at Rio Olympics.

2. India's P V Sindhu created history today by becoming the first Indian to enter the finals of the Women's Singles in an Olympics badminton tournament after defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets 21-19, 21-10. With this she now secures at least a Silver medal. The World No. 10 from Hyderabad will next take on two-time World Champion and top seed Carolina Marin of Spain in the summit clash tomorrow.

3. Central Leather Research Institute's (CLRI) Principal Scientist P Shanmugam was awarded the APJ Abdul Kalam Award this week for his meritorious service in the Higher Education Department of Tamil Nadu. The award consists of a certificate, 5 lakh rupees cheque and an 8-gram gold medal.
