1. Global brokerage HSBC has downgraded India to -underweight- from -overweight- due to weak monsoon forecast and possibility of no further rate cut. This is the first major downgrade for Indian markets in the past one year. HSBC also added that India has become the second most expensive and one of the most over-owned markets in Asia.

2. Indian-American student, Karan Menon, aged 14, has won the prestigious National Geographic Bee competition in the US. With this, he received a USD 85,000 college scholarship, lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and an expedition for two to the Galapagos Islands aboard the Lindblad ship National Geographic Endeavour.

3. Indian author Neel Mukherjee was awarded with the 2014 Encore Award for his novel The Lives of Others. The Lives of Others was also shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Prize.

4. Famous eminent Bengali author Suchitra Bhattacharya passed away following a cardiac arrest in Kolkata on 13th may. She was one of the most popular novelists of Bengali literature in recent times.
