1. India-s Index of Industrial Production contracted by 0.7% in August compared to 2.5% contraction in the previous month. Manufacturing sector output, which constitutes over 75% of the IIP, contracted 0.3% in August.


2. Olympic silver medallist Indian badminton player P V Sindhu was appointed as brand ambassador of Vizag Steel.


3. The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) has awarded Indian shooter, Jitu Rai, the 'Champion of Champions' title for pistol shooting in 2016.


4. India's 19-year-old shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde won the women's singles title at the Russian Open held in Vladivostok. Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy won the mixed doubles title at the same event.


5. Indian sprinter Srabani Nanda won the 24th Ekalabya Award for the year 2016 in recognition of her sporting excellence. She won gold in 200m, silver in 100m and 4x100m relay in 12th South Asian Games held in Guwahati in February.
