1. French author Patrick Modiano won Nobel Prize for Literature for the year 2014. The Swedish Academy has also called him "a Marcel Proust of our times".Modiano has written about Jewish identity in Europe after World War II and Germany's occupation of France.

He published his first book in 1968 and focuses mainly on historical fiction. Some of Modiano's roughly 30 works include "A Trace of Malice" and "Honeymoon". His latest work is the novel "Pour que tu ne te perdes pas dans le quartier".

2. The Bank of England has kept the benchmark interest rate unchanged at record low of 0.5%. At the same time, it has also decided not to extend its quantitative easing programme after spending 375 billion pounds already.

Interest rate has been kept unchanged at 0.5% since March 2009 post one of the worst financial crisis in history.
