1. US President Barack Obama has signed into effect a wave of steep spending cuts of nearly USD 85 billion from the US Federal budget for this year in order to reduce deficit and mounting debt. This steep spending cut can damage the US economy as well as the world economy. This step was taken as the US Congress leaders failed to remove deadlock regarding increase in taxes before the previously set timeline. Most of the spending cut is expected to be in defense sector.

2. World Number one Novak Djokovic defeated third seed Czech Republic-s Tomas Berdych to win the ATP Dubai Open Tennis title 2013 by 7-5, 6-3 in the finals in Dubai.

3. India-s Mahesh Bhupathi and his French partner Michael Lloldra won the ATP Dubai Open Tennis men-s doubles title after defeating Serbia-s Nenad Zimonjic and Sweden-s Robert Lindstedt by 7-6, 7-6 in straight sets. It was Bhupathi's fifth title in Dubai and he won his first Dubai title in 1998 with Leander Paes.

4. Rafael Nadal has defetaed David Ferrer by 6-0, 6-2 in the men-s final to win the Mexican Open 2013 Tennis tournament on Saturday. This is his second title in three events since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off.

5. Italy's Sara Errani has defeated Carla Suarez-Navarro of Spain by 6--0, 6-4 in the women-s final to win the Mexican Open 2013 Tennis tournament on Saturday.
