1. New Zealand was ranked at No1 position among the 132 countries on the list of the Social Progress Index 2014 compiled by US-based non-profit group Social Progress Imperative. New Zealand was followed by Switzerland, Iceland and Netherlands. Last year the first Social Progress Index ranked 50 countries while its ranking includes 132 countries around the world this year.


2. The US economy added 192,000 new jobs in March which is same as expected by the economist. US unemployment rate stood steady at 6.7% in March.


3. The European Central Bank (ECB) has kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at record low of 0.25% in spite of inflation falling to 5-year low in March. The ECB has kept the interest rate unchanged since November 2013.
