Current Affairs Global - 30 June 2013

1. Global credit rating agency Fitch Ratings has affirmed the United States' top level credit rating at AAA but held the outlook at -Negative- due to high debt levels which makes it vulnerable to shocks unless more deficit reduction measures are adopted. Fitch said it will conduct a further review of the credit rating by the end of 2013.

2. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its decision to replace the Champions Trophy - the last edition of which was won by India recently - with the World Test Championship, the inaugural edition of which will be held in England and Wales in June-July 2017. India will host the second edition of World Test Championship in February-March 2021.

3. ICC has confirmed Afghanistan as the 37th Associate Member of the ICC while Romania was accepted as an Affiliate Member. The new Associate membership will help Afghanistan get more funds from the ICC and also give much-needed exposure to the team.  Afghanistan now join Hong Kong (1969), Kuwait (2005), Malaysia (1967), Nepal (1996), Singapore (1974), Thailand (2005) and UAE (1990) as ICC Associates from the Asian region.
