1. World Heart Day is observed today (29th September) across the world to raise awareness that heart disease and stroke are the world-s leading causes of death.

World Heart Day was founded in 2000 to educate people globally about the dangers of heart disease and stroke. Theme of 2014 is -Creating heart-healthy environments- which revolves around, taking a look at places around our work, home and play that increase our risk of heart disease.

2. Ashraf Ghani was sworn in Monday as Afghanistan's President today which is also the country's first peaceful democratic transition of power. He assumed charge after signinga power-sharing deallast week with his rival presidential candidate, Abdullah Abdullah.

He succeeds Hamid Karzai, who has spent 13 years as President of Afghanistan after Taliban rule.

3. China-s e-commerce giant Alibaba, which has recently marked its biggest IPO debut in NYSE, has received approval from Chinese Central bank authority to set up a private bank in order to diversify its business into financial services. Alibaba is the latest company outside the financial sphere to win approval to start a bank in China.

Alibaba, through its subsidiary Zhejiang Ant Small and Micro Financial Services Group Co, will hold 30% of share capital of the new bank, as per the China Banking Regulatory Commission.

4. Europe has retained Golf's Ryder Cup after defeating the United States today. This is Europe-s eight victory in last 10 events of Ryder cup. The 12 man European team secured an easy win after finishing ahead 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 over USA team.
