1. Jacob Zuma was sworn in as South African President for a second term by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng yesterday in Pretoria. His party, African National Congress won the national election held in this month with 62% of votes.


2. Indian-American student Akhil Rekulapelli won the National Geographic Bee championship in Washington, USA on 21st May. Ameya Mujumdar from Florida stood second, while California-s Tuvya Bergson-Michelson stood third place in the same competition. Akhil won the 50000 US dollar college scholarship given to the winner of the National Geographic Bee Championship.


3. Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid, 4-1 in extra time at Lisbon yesterday night to win their 10th UEFA Champions League title. This is the first title since 2002.


Atletico scored the first goal to get the lead in the first half but Real-s Sergio Ramos managed to score a goal just seconds left in regulation, to send the match into extra time. In extra time, Real scored 3 goals to win the title.
