1. Former Prime Minister of Norway, Gro Harlem Brundtland was awarded with the first Tang Prize in sustainable development. The Tang Prize was awarded to her by the Tang Prize Foundation on 18th June. She was awarded the prize for her innovation, leadership and implementation of sustainable development.  She is also known as the Godmother of sustainable development.

Samuel Yin established the Tang Prize in December 2012. It is awarded to encourage individuals by recognizing and supporting scholars for conducting revolutionary research in the four major fields of Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology and the Rule of Law. The winners of the prize will receive a cash reward of 50 million New Taiwan dollar (NT$) which is equivalent to 1.7 million US dollars.

2. World Number No 1 Chess Player Norway-s Magnus Carlsen won the FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship held in Dubai last week. He secured Gold medal with 17 points from the 21 rounds to emerge the winner in the super-fast 5 minutes rounds of chess. Russia-s Ian Nepomniachtchi won the Silver medal and and Hiraki Nakamura of US got the Bronze medal. Carlsen became the first chess player ever to hold three world championship crowns.
