1. World Diabetes Day is observed today (14th November) across the world to raise awareness of diabetes-a chronic disease. This is an annual campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations to engage millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness. The theme for 2009-13 is -Education and Prevention-.


2. The Japanese economy grew at a 1.9% annualized rate in the July-to-September compared to 3.8% growth witnessed in the previous quarter. Consumer spending, which accounts for about 60% of gross domestic product (GDP) increased by only 0.1% in the same quarter compared to previous quarter.


3. The economy of the euro zone grew by just 0.1% in the July-to-September period, compared to 0.3%  growth in the previous quarter. The weak growth level is the main reason behind the recent rate cut of 25 bps by the European Central Bank. Euro zone-s two biggest economies, France-s economy was contracted by 0.1% while Germany-s economy grew by 0.3% in the same quarter.
