1. Brazil-s Presidential candidate Eduardo Campos was killed in a plane crash yesterday, raising doubt about the upcoming Presidential election scheduled to be held later this year. President Dilma Rousseff declared three days of mourning and halted all campaign activities for the presidential elections on 5 October.

2. Economic growth of the 18-member euro zone stood at zero in the second quarter of the current year due to lower than expected GDP growth in two of its biggest economies Germany and France. This is slightly lower compared to 0.2% GDP growth witnessed in the previous quarter.

The German economy was contracted by 0.2% after expanding by 0.7% in the first quarter, while France-s economic growth stagnated for the second consecutive quarter. Spain-s economy witnessed 0.6% growth in the same period and Italy fell into another recession with 0.2% contraction followed by 0.1% contraction in the previous quarter.

3. Spanish football club Real Madrid won the UEFA Football Super Cup, the first European trophy of the season, after defeating Sevilla football club by 2-0 in Cardiff, Wales yesterday. With this win, Madrid has now won 14 major European trophies. Both the goals were scored by striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
